H G Wells. A5 hardback. Illustrated in black. This is the forerunner of Wells' better known "Little Wars" which became the early bible of wargaming (and still is to some of us). This book doesn't have any rules for wargames but describes the escapism Wells enjoyed in playing with toy soldiers with his children. The photo pages show the exotic lands they built and peopled with all manner of BRITAINS figures, as with Little Wars there are amusing drawings in the margins all the way through. I would have to say that this is my favorite of Wells' two books and think it deserves a place on every collectors shelf. I have heard a rumour that there is a second edition printed by an American book collectors club, the original is quite common but remember it's a first edition by a world renowned author so it won't be cheap.
